It was a home win in the Nevin Spence Memorial tournament as our Junior team won both their games to lift the cup.
On a cracking day in Crossgar, we hosted the annual tournament as preparations for the SuperCupNI moved into the final few weeks.
The Down boys met Ards 2002s in their first game and goals from Ben Hollinger, Lewis Davidson, Matty Lusty and Reece Doyle gave the team a 4-2 win.
Over on pitch 2 the derby battle between Tyrone and Armagh went right down to wire with penalty kicks needed to separate the teams after a 0-0 draw. It would be Armagh booking a spot in the final with a 7-6 spot kick victory.
That result set up another all-County meeting in the decider and goals from Lusty and Jonah Heron put Down 2-0 up. Armagh hit back with a converted penalty kick but failed to find a second goal allowing Down to hold on and capture the trophy.
Thanks are due to all three of our visiting teams, as well as all of the parents and family members who came along to support, not forgetting our hard working volunteers who made the event run smoothly.
A special thanks goes to Emma and Laura of the Spence family for attending and presenting the winners’ trophy in memory of their brother, former Down player Nevin.
This Saturday and Sunday at our home base of Kilmore Playing Fields, we will host the annual Nevin Spence Memorial and Mourne Cup tournaments.
