Fermanagh emerged victorious in the Premier county battle against Down thanks to a last minute winner from Callum Jones.
In a keenly fought encounter at Clough, Down had the first opportunity when on four minutes Cai Gemmell broke through to strike the ball into the side netting.
Scott Pengelly was called on to keep Fermanagh at bay on 9 minutes as Owens got on the end of a whipped cross from the left but the goalkeeper was equal to it.
Down took the lead with 20 minutes gone with a chance out of nothing from Tom Mathieson, who glanced up from 30 yards and buried the ball into the bottom right hand corner.
Within five minutes the match was level when a cross from the right picked out Brandon Horan and he headed in off the post.
The pendulum swung back Down’s way though in the final minute of the half when Mahon was judged to have dragged down an opponent in the area and Down were awarded a penalty. Callum Ferris stepped up and beat Josh Brownlee, low to his left.
As the rain began to ease in Clough, so did the action to a degree, but not the competitive edge and the referee was forced into showing seven yellow cards before the game was up.
For Down, Ferris had a couple of openings around the 55th minute, first having a shot saved by the keeper, before firing over. On 59 minutes Fermanagh squared the match with the goal of the game. McBrien did well to retrieve the ball on the right and his deep cross was just perfect for Conor Love to acrobatically volley past Pengelly for 2-2.
The dramatic Fermanagh winner came as Down conceded a free kick not far outside their area. Owens laid the ball off to Callum Jones and he rifled it past the keeper to take all three points. In the aftermath of the goal, Down’s Callum Ferris picked up a second yellow card to end his night prematurely.
